VP Debate Takeaways

After of 90 minutes of Ohio Senator JD Vance and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz on the debate stage, there are many takeaways. The most glaring surprise of the debate was how cordial both men were. Vance and Walz both took a polite stance on adverse opinions, with Walz often agreeing with many of the points Vance made on immigration, home prices, and gun violence. JD Vance constantly made it a point to hammer Kamala Harris’ open border policies, and attributed the increase of drugs, guns, and child trafficking to these Biden/Harris administration policies. While Walz spent most of the debate in defense, he made the argument that Donald Trump is a threat to democracy, often referring back to January 6th, as evidence. Vance rebutted this argument by mentioning Trump’s rhetoric on Jan. 6th, citing his tweets during the protests which stated to “please remain peaceful and respectful”.
